Product Description
Overview
The popcorn's popped, the movie snacks out, and you sit with your family for a double feature. But before you pass the popcorn, for those obsessed with board games, card games, and trivia games along with a love of movies there’s: A Trivia Card Game About EVERY Movie!
What began as a fun movie game of Mad Libs meets Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, now a film trivia game where your big screen skills are used for family game nights, date night, or drinking games with new friends.
Gameplay
Every player lays down a Trivia Card, like Movie, Actor, Role, or Quote. By forging movie connections, from actors and actresses to roles and movie quotes, we jump to a new movie, going from Willy Wonka to Young Frankenstein using Gene Wilder. This trivia game relies on the player's movie knowledge, jumping from dramas to horror, from comedy to classics.
Strategy cards like Take 5, Reverse Angle, Edit, and CUT! spice up basic play. With each session the game plays differently, you can’t get a better game deal than that!
Impact
Old games are like television reruns, but this trivia card game bests complicated tabletop games and card games, especially friendship strainers like Cards Against Humanity and Exploding Kittens. It can be a gift for dad, a movie gift for the card game fan, or kids raised on kids games from Spin Master. Plus, you’ll never need an expansion pack. Do you like Disney, Marvel, DC, Star Wars movies, Harry Potter, or kids movies? Play them all!
Players can jump around in their favorite television shows if they want. Movie Buff caters to how you play, unlike pre-packaged trivia games like Scene It. And it’s portable for travel and road trips. Monopoly, Taboo, Family Feud (not just the TV game), Apples to Apples, Pictionary, and Uno have wide appeal after many years, and so will this game. Your favorite movie, from every writer, producer, and director throughout history, can come up in play, so long as you choose it.
Are you ready to Be the Buff!?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2016We opened this yesterday for Christmas and have already played it 4 or 5 times. The people who had decided not to play even asked to be dealt in the next game, it was so fun and easy.
There are 4 cards: movie, quote, role, and actor. We removed the actor cards to play with the kids, they are not familiar with actor's names. Each player has 10 cards and the object is to get rid of all your cards. Someone opens with a card...say, the movie card, and they name Toy Story 1. The next player must lay down a quote/role/actor card and name one that goes with Toy Story 1...say, lay down a role card and name Woody. Then move on to the next player. Player 3 may also place a role card and name Andy, or place a quote card and say "To infinity, and beyond!", or (if you are playing with actor cards) place an actor card and name Tom Hanks. When all 4 types of cards are played (there may be several of some, like quotes), that movie is closed, and the next player must start a new movie. Official rules say there must be one related card...say, a common actor...but with kids we just say the next player chooses. This is hilarious, because depending on if you are familiar with the current movie, you may be dying for a chance to use a card, or dreading it. But it's up to the people before you to keep a movie going, by playing a duplicate card, or completing the "set". Also, as you play cards, your options become limited. You may know a quote, but only have role cards. An actor's name may be on the tip of your tongue, but you can't quite get it. Your kids may know Spongebob the Movie backwards and forwards, but you've only seen it in passing on the way to the laundry room, and now your kids are kicking your butt with Spongebob quotes and characters and rubbing it in your face. And maybe you can't wait to play this with adults so there are more than just Disney movies and Alvin and the Chipmunks. But maybe that's just me. There are more in depth rules, of course, and other "Uno"-esque cards like skip, reverse, and wild cards, but you get the general idea of the game now, I hope.
We love it. And I personally love that it can be tailored to kids, cause I have a lot of them, and they love kid movies, but then adults can play the same game with movies my kids can't watch for 10 more years. It's also very much like Uno in that it can be as tame or ruthless as you make it, and deceptively simple. We love that about it. It also is perfect for traveling, no bulky boards or pieces, it's slightly larger than 2 decks of playing cards. Anyway, well done to the creators, we have thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to many more crazy games.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2017Very nice game and fun for adults that remember a lot about movies and the people in them. If you are not a movie buff, then don't waste your time. Box is about the size of a large deck of playing cards.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016A great friend introduced me to "Movie Buff" a few weeks, and four of us played for hours. It was lotsa fun, and very well done. I have now purchased two copies of the game because I enjoy playing so much. One for myself, and one as a gift.
I love trivia and cinema, so this is the perfect game for me. I'd highly recommend to those with similar interests. The format allows for each game to be unique, which I like a lot. In fact, I want to play right now! But as it is, I will have to wait until tomorrow night when the same friend is hosting a "Movie Buff" competition. What fun!
Again, a good time is guaranteed for all. Recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2023This one went right back. I should have read the description more closely. But there is four packs of the same cards and you have to make up the questions yourself. Why do I need the cards for then? After making up a question you would have to look up the answer to make sure the person asking has the right answer. The cards are just for the categories. Just get a pack of playing cards and assign the suits as the categories and you can play the game and save your money.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2022Buyer Beware: No trivia included! Most know a lot of trivia to begin with for this game to be playable. Bought it & now I have no one to play it with.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2017Wow, this game took us a while to figure out how to play. Directions are complicated with all the 'terms'. I found a video online of a family playing it but they were playing wrong so that confused me more. Once we understood it is SO MUCH fun. Great for people of all movie knowledge big or small since you make the game to fit you. This is the best movie trivia game out there!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2016Seems like the questions are either super easy (you've seen the movie before) or impossibly difficult (haven't seen the movie).
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2019Is not at all what I thought it would be. From the pics it looks like the back of the cards would have questions on them but instead you have to think of the movies yourself. I wanted movie trivia not a game of connections. My fault though as I should have done more research. Gonna be hard to get people to play with it not really being a trivia question game.
Not gonna return it because I don’t have the time but know it will never be played.
